Is it time to schedule a dental exam? Our family dentist near you at Sharon Dental Group can explain what a comprehensive dental exam is and why you need one.
Dental exams are far more important than we realize. Our oral health and overall health are deeply linked, and maintaining optimal dental health is crucial to overall wellbeing.
Our expert dental team examines a problem thoroughly, finds out why it occurred in the first place, and treats the issue to prevent it from resurfacing.
There are three types of dental cleanings done for patients. All three types of cleanings are done with one goal in mind: Cleaner teeth and elimination of hardened plaque.
However, they are done for different reasons and in different ways.
Scaling and Root Planing: This cleaning procedure is usually done for patients who have had gum disease in the past or are at high risk of periodontal disease.
Prophylaxis Cleaning: This is routine cleaning and can be done every six months by a dental hygienist. We usually recommend this procedure for patients with healthy teeth.
Gross Debridement: Patients who have not had a cleaning done for more than a year may require gross debridement due to the high buildup of tartar. While simple debridement takes a short time, complex debridement for damaged teeth may take longer to complete.
